Marble Surface Treatments

Marble Treatments

Marble is a natural stone of extraordinary beauty and durability, but to preserve its aesthetic and structural characteristics over time, it is essential to apply specific protective treatments. Preserving marble means protecting it from staining agents, corrosive substances, and everyday wear and tear. Treatments on marble, such as anti-acid treatments, are designed to provide effective protection against stains, scratches, and other surface damages, ensuring that the marble retains its elegance and strength over time.

Anti-Acid Treatment

The anti-acid treatment is an innovative procedure that makes marble surfaces resistant to "staining" substances such as coffee, wine, vinegar, oil, tomato, lime remover, cola, perfume, lipstick, and other corrosive substances. This treatment ensures long-lasting protection, preserving the beauty and integrity of the treated surfaces.

Which surfaces can be treated?

The anti-acid treatment is ideal for a variety of finished surfaces, including:

  • Kitchen tops
  • Bathroom tops
  • Shower trays
  • Wall claddings

These surfaces are treated directly at the company. Additionally, the treatment can be applied on-site to floors, preferably just after installation, but also to existing floors following a thorough cleaning with a single-disc machine.

How is the product applied?

The anti-acid product comes in various formulations, tailored to the type of material and application method.

Originally developed in Nordic countries to protect exterior stones from winter salt corrosion, it has since been adapted to protect terrazzo, marble, and stone surfaces.

At the company, the treatment is applied in a pressurized booth that ensures even coverage and reduces the presence of pollutants such as dust and microparticles. On-site, the self-leveling formula ensures a uniform application without streaks or absorption differences.

What does this product fear?

The anti-acid treatment creates a surface protection and penetrates the material, but it is vulnerable to deep scratches. To maintain long-term protection, it is important to avoid scratches that could compromise the integrity of the treatment.

How deep does it penetrate into the material?

The penetration of the treatment is proportional to the porosity of the treated surface. The more porous the material, the deeper the product penetrates, providing effective and lasting protection.

What are the curing times?

The complete curing time of the treatment is relatively long, allowing for deep penetration into the material. 80% of the drying occurs within 24 hours, making the surface movable and walkable. The remaining 20% dries over 10 days, during which it is essential to avoid scratches and stains on the surface.

What type of finish can be treated?

The anti-acid treatment is effective on various finishes, including:

  • Rough finishes such as sandblasted or bush-hammered
  • Smoothed finishes
These finishes are ideal due to their porosity, which facilitates the penetration of the product. Glossy surfaces can also be treated with specific primers, achieving a semi-gloss final result.
